Save The Planet – Light Up With Renewables

When looking at global electricity consumption, the United States consumes approximately 17% and is surpassed only by China whose consumption is 25%. And though China has more than four times as many people as the United States, the U.S. manages to use as much as two-thirds of the energy of our Asian neighbors. By comparison, we should be using no more than 7% of global totals.

Certainly our current lifestyles are dependent on electricity. It’s also true that we continue to find more and more ways to use this precious commodity while few advocate we cut back on our consumption.

The United States produces its electricity primarily from fossil fuels (coal, natural gas, and petroleum) which are all non-renewables, meaning: when the resource is used up, there is no more. In addition, the collection and use of fossil fuels release carbon monoxide and sulfur dioxide into the air we breathe causing health problems that can be life-threatening. They’re also polluting the air we breathe and contributing to climate change.

So what do we do? We make changes ... step by step.

Here are the top 10 sources of clean energy:
Solar, Wind, Hydro, Natural Gas, Geothermal,
Tidal, Nuclear, Waves, Rain, and Biomass.

There’s no quick or easy solution, but we each can find ways to be better consumers of electricity. Perhaps its as simple as turning out unneeded lights or encouraging your community leaders to increase the use of renewables in your area.

The good news is: we can make a difference. We just need to choose a first step and take it.
